A Brief History The vineyard was planted on a north sloping site, commencing in 1996 on a small block alongside the entry. Tough ground conditions of light weathered granite determined that irrigation would be essential. As the vineyard and wines developed, tourists arrived in increasing numbers requiring the development of a tasting room and subsequently, picnic grounds in a park setting on the banks of the Goulburn River in the vineyard. Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Chardonnay were first planted in the “small vineyard” together with 30 varieties in the experimental area. From the experimental results, the vineyard was expanded in the suitable varieties. Awards have been consistently gained by our wines from initial plantings. The more recent wines made from Merlot, Viognier, Roussanne and Pinot Gris grapes have been released from vintage 2008. The extent of the vineyard comprises approximately 27,000 vines resulting in a maximum premium yield of 135 tonnes of grapes.
